“Eleven” When you open a book I bet you think that since the book is make believe the characters will be perfect, but trust me not one main character is. Just like how in real life us humans aren’t perfect. In the story, “Eleven” by Sandra Cisnero a quiet girl named Rachel learns to have courage. Not having courage is her flaw, her thing to stop herself from being perfect. Rachel doesn't stick up for herself. Plus, she doesn't express herself. She also expresses her thoughts to us readers and not to anyone else.

My first reason on why rachel doesn't have courage is that she doesn't stick up for herself. When Mrs.Price is wondering who the ugly sweater that has been in the coat room for a month now belongs

When Mrs.Price yelled at Rachel to put the sweater on the tears that she was holding back finally just bursted out. “All of a sudden I’m crying in front of everybody” The part of her from when she was 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 is all flowing out of her. This proves that rachel doesn’t have the courage to express herself in front of everybody. “I’m crying like i’m three” Rachel says. She was holding back her expressions I think that she knew that she was going to cry one way or another. To end my essay I would lastly like to say that Rachel expresses her thoughts to us instead of anybody else. She doesn’t say a word about anything to anybody else about the sweater because she is worried that she is going to get into more trouble. This shows that Rachel is worried that if she mentions anything to somebody they might tell on her and then she will get into more trouble.

In conclusion, In the story “Eleven” by Sandra Cisnero Rachel learns to have courage. This story teaches us that no main character in a book, not that one human in the world is perfect. Rachel’s flaw the thing that stops her from being perfect is that she doesn’t have courage.
