Edgar Allan Poe knew he was going to create a suspenseful tale when he wrote this story. “The Tale-Tell Heart” keeps you in suspense throughout the whole story. The man should be put in prison for murder. The old man didn’t do anything to him. So, the man had a giant eye; that shouldn’t bother him. He says “I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever.” He is going to take the old man’s life because he is scared of the eye. Doesn’t that sound a little strange? I think the man is just going mad or already in the stages of severe madness. He keeps telling us that he isn’t mad, that he is very clever. Even though he is cautious at what he does, doesn’t mean he is mad or isn’t going mad. “Madmen know nothing. But you should have seen me. You should have seen how wisely I proceeded - with what caution-with what foresight- with what foresight- with what dissimulation I went to work!” He indeed was very cautious, but why kill someone over an eye that creeps you …show more content…
I think he should be put in prison. He murdered an innocent old man, because he had a weird eye. Yes, he is insane because after he murdered the man, hid the body parts, and was sitting and taking with the police; he heard a noise… A noise he thought was the old man’s heart, but in reality it was actually his own. “I thought the heart must burst. And now a new anxiety seized me- sound would be heard by a neighbor!” He was sitting there talking to the police, and the noise got louder, and louder, and even louder… until; the man bursts out in madness. Before he bursted out he thought to himself… “Was it possible they heard not? - no, no! They heard! - they suspected! – they knew! – they were making a mockery of my horror!” He then bursted out… “’Villains!” I shrieked, “ dissemble no more! I admit the deed! – tear up the planks! – here, here! – it is the beating of his hideous

The variation of strange and disturbed characters has been a constant throughout all works of gothic fiction. In The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe, the narrator murders an old man for which he has an almost familial love. It is clear that the novel’s narrator has a questionable mental state due to his weak grasp upon reality. This is seen in the way he attributes special powers to the old man’s eye and in his incomprehension towards neighbours hearing the final heartbeats of his victim. First of all, the narrator associates fictional powers with the old man’s pale blue eye.…

He had the eye of a vulture-a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees-very gradually-I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever.” Therefore this proves that the caregiver is obsessing over the old man’s mocking eye, and that the eye is driving him to become irrational and at the same time making him seem less humane. As mentioned in the other story, the “Monkey's Paw”, Mrs. White, on of the main characters is driven insane when she realizes the paw ‘slaughtered’ her son. She ends up blaring and acting spastically when she thinks her lost son has ‘risen from the dead’,…

"It was open --wide, wide open --and I grew furious as I gazed upon it. " This quote from the Tell Tale Heart in which the narrator speaks of the old man's eye is just one of the many examples of how he is truly a mad man, a mad man with multiple psychopathic tendencies. He not only killed the old man that he liked so very much because of his sinister eye but he also cut him up into tiny pieces and hid him in the floorboard beneath his feet! The narrator didn't have a heart, he didn't feel sympathy or remorse for the old man when he killed him.…

The reason why I think that the narrator (main character) is insane is because he puts a lot of time and energy into the concept of killing him, his reason for killing the old man is because of his eye, and he uses very inhuman killing tactics for the murder committed. Throughout the reading of this short story I have come to conclusion that the…

The man is not insane, and should be given the complete punishment, since he is guilty for this crime. This man was aware of his surroundings and the actions he conducted. Also, he was very careful at the time of crime. He left no clues at the scene of crime, and he controlled his behavior when the detectives arrived at the old man’s house. So, he was sane enough to understand the appropriate actions to be taken.…

In the story "Tell Tale Heart " by edger Allen Poe it's about the narrator who loved a man as a friend but wanted to kill the man who had one eye , he wanted to kill him because he thought the man's one eye was evil and it was taking over his friend's body .Also he wanted to kill the man because the man's evil eye was going to destroy us and he wanted to be sort of the hero for killing the man with that evil eye. I think the narrator was insane because he had a superficial charm , that means that he has a sort of likeness to him and he is a likable person . He had that charm and he created relationship with most people and the man as well. Also he had a great way of persuading people to do stuff and he got along with people most of the time .…

First, the main reason that the narrator killed the old man was the old man’s “Evil eye”. The eye symbolizes the narrator’s control of his “inner demons”. For example, “...to fall upon that vulture eye! It was open — wide, wide open, and my anger increased as it looked straight at me” (Poe). Unless the eye was visible to the narrator, he was otherwise a normal minded man, but for some unknown reason the eye angered him.…
