My first reason that this isn’t too much for Sucker to ask is because he has always wanted to be like Pete and get his attention but Pete always pushes him away. He just wants Pete to be like his brother, which I don’t think is too much for him to ask. In the story, Sucker asks “You do like me as if I was your own brother, don’t you Pete?” and Pete dully replies “Sure.” This shows that in the story Pete doesn’t really care for Sucker and what he wants. Also, it shows that all he was wanting was him to act like a brother. And Pete doesn’t care, and doesn’t simply act as a caring brother, which isn’t too much to ask for Sucker. …show more content…
He doesn’t have friends around the neighborhood like Pete, plus his parents have passed away. Therefore, he wants to be just like Pete and would do anything he said. But Pete just tries to take advantage of Sucker in the story and doesn’t really act like he cares. And he had times where he would blow up on Sucker for no reason. For example, in the text Sucker asks Pete “Why aren’t we buddies?” and for no reason, Pete blows up and replies to Sucker “Because you’re the dumbest slob I ever saw! Nobody cares about you!” And I think Pete reacting this way is ridiculous considering Sucker doesn’t really have anyone and he just wants Pete’s attention and to act as a brother.
