Family Relationships with Addicts The topic I choose is Substance Abuse in this area I find Alcohol and Other Drugs Abuse and Dependence Affects Family Relationship most interested. I have lived to see this with my own eyes throughout my family while growing. It is something that has touched and changed me forever. It used to be this way since it kept them around the family. My opinion now is no, it’s not the most important thing in my family for the abuser to get enough of his substance of choice because after losing two brother and still want to hurt your family is not okay. My family has tried to get him help, and make things better on numerous occasions. But then again it seems that nothing will work. I know that an abuser can’t just say okay I’m done and never turn back it’s not that easy. 218). This one goes with theme seven once you have lost trust in the family it is hard to communicate with other family members. You feel afraid because once you start talking about a situation that you over heard or trying to put pieces together about something that may have happened. You start talking openly about the situation and someone might be scared to speak on it causing the truth may come out leading to destroying the family even more. My opinion yes this is normally what happens when everyone has had enough of it and start talking. Finally, alcohol and other drug abuse and dependence affects family relationships because “this is a problem that affects the entire family; what happens to one family member affects all others (Kirst-Ashman, p.468). I always just thought that this was only my family that was facing theses kind of circumstances in life.
