In life, there are a lot of unexpected events that take place every single day. In the article, “Eleven” By Sandra Cisneros, the author uses attitude, similes, imagery and more stylistic techniques to convey one of those unexpected events through the perspective of an eleven year old girl named Rachel. The article is about an eleven year old girl who feels that becoming an age doesn’t makes you any older than your previous ages. The author uses similes to help convey the story from an eleven year old girl's perspective. An example of this would be when she said “Because the way you grow old is kind of like an onion or like the rings inside a tree trunk or like my little wooden dolls that fit one inside the other, each year inside the next one.” This quote talks about how the girl doesn’t feel much older than her previous ages. This quote also has parallel structure and run ons as well. The use of these show how your put into the little girl’s mind and she’s piecing together information on the spot, by coming up with more ideas as she thinks of them.
The author also uses the attitude of the little girl to add to the perspective. Near the end of the article, the author writes “...and all of a sudden i’m crying in front of everybody. I wish i was invisible but i'm not.” The author then went …show more content…
A good example of this comes from when the author writes “”Of course it’s yours,” Mrs. Price says. “I remember you wearing it once.” Because she’s older and the teacher, she’s right and i’m not.” The quote used here is very good example of how the author can portray a character as eleven. The girl feels like she can’t say anything back to the teacher because she has more authority. She is too scared to stand up for herself when matched with an adult. Someone older might have tried to defend their situation at least a little
