In some cases, homelessness is unpreventable to its victims. There are a large number of homeless families and veterans, and contrary to popular belief, a decent proportion of homeless people do have jobs. If anything is unsafe about homelessness, it is the fact that so many people have nowhere to live, and are given over to the streets. The homeless battle the elements and are more susceptible to street violence than the average man living in an average house. Homeless people have no way of seeming safer because the conditions they live in are dangerous and appalling to people who do not have to live in them. Keeping out of other people’s personal space is a common conduct of manners. Beyond having good manners, anyone going out of their way to seem safe to the general public is going a step further than they should have to. If someone wanted to intentionally cause harm to another person, they would more than likely act intimidating. Those kinds of people ought to be avoided. A harmless man minding his own business should be able to go on his way without feeling the need to seem less threatening. Feeling and, more importantly, acting afraid of passersby based on how they look is very shallow and can really hurt people’s feelings when they have not done anything wrong. Threatening is a relative term and can mean different things depending on who is using the word. A large man walking down the street may believe that he is keeping a low profile and could not be seen as intimidating. A single woman looking at the same man might only
