Looking up at the night sky, little glowing dots are scattered across the night sky. They are known as stars. There are several billion stars in our galaxy, but only a few are seen with the naked eye. Stars are by definition, large exploding balls of gas made up of mostly hydrogen and helium. The two most unstable elements on the periodic table. The largest star in our galaxy is the sun. It’s the largest star and one of the few stars that are going through a star wide nuclear reaction. The reason the sun has yet to fully destroy is because it has so much matter that it takes billions of years to use all its fuel. Scientists think that the core of the Sun is a 15-million-degree Celsius plasma and that 90 percent of the Sun is plasma. Thousands of protons in the Sun's core collide with other protons to produce helium nuclei in a nuclear fusion reaction that releases energy. Because a lot of stars cannot be seen by the naked eye, a radio telescope is used that detects the radiation. Electromagnetic energy describes the different kinds of energies released into space by stars such as the Sun. They include: Radio waves, TV waves, Radar waves, Infrared radiation (heat), Light, Ultraviolet light, X-rays, Short waves, Microwaves, Gamma rays. However, all kinds of electromagnetic radiation, like harmful gamma rays, are released from the Sun, our atmosphere stops some kinds from getting to us.
