St. Martin of Tours is one of the most recognizable saints of Christianity. His journey form soldier to saint is remarkable, especially with all the miracles he performed and people he converted. His life was recorded by biographer Sulpicius Severus, and in that book, explains all his achievements and most notably the enemies he encountered along the way. What makes a good saint is the challenges that they have overcome and the people they have inspired along the way. According to Suplicius Severus, St. Martin battled with the pagans, the military, and himself to be St. Martin of Tours, an inspiration to many Christians worldwide. St Martin of Tours had an illustrious and long list of encounters with pagans. Most importantly, trying to show them that their religion is wrong and that Christianity is right. Early in St Martin’s career he met Hillary the Bishop f Poiters. Hilary was a mentor to him and wanted St martin, to advance in his career and become a priest. Unfortunately, St. Martin felt unworthy of such a title and refused many times. It happened again when St. Martin came across a father and a dying girl. Beforehand, St. Martin gained a reputation of healing, so the father went up to him and begged him to save his daughter. St. Martin was embarrassed that the father held him to such high regard that he initially refuses to save her because he thought he was unworthy to be used for such a high power. A big crowd gathered and St. Martin knelt and prayed. The girl was then saved from death. Luckily the girl was saved, St. Martin wasn’t going to save her at first. St. Martin’s number one enemy is himself. St/ Martin felt that he was unworthy, and it kept him from advancing in his career early and almost let a young girl die. St. martin had faith in god and left his insecurities beyond to become the a who he is
