Petrarch realizes that he has put other things before Christ, and he repents for his wrongdoing. This is especially evident when Petrarch writes, "I was glad of the progress I had made, but I wept over my imperfection and was grieved by the fickleness of all that men do" (43). Petrarch clearly tries to embody the same ideals that the monks do, and this is noticeable throughout his writing. Saint Benedict, Saint Francis, and Petrarch all have the common goal of trying to make their followers better religiously. Saint Benedict believes that the best way to expand Christianity is through manual labor and serving God.…

Francis continued to grow spiritually and felt a calling of going out and spreading the word of the Lord to continue his habits of following the lord. If it weren't for Francis’s ability to stand to his virtues, he would not have made such an impact on the world like he has. Now he had a lot of virtues and I can’t even think of a vice that he had in his later days. Some of the good habits that allowed for him to do such good was following one of God’s most important laws; Loving everyone. Francis treated each person and all of creation as if they were all gifts from God above.…

As Thompson writes,” In chapter 4, that on money, Francis closed the loopholes we noted in the Earlier Rule that allowed the brothers to accept cash alms for aid of lepers and the sick. Now they are not doing so directly or through intermediaries. Rather, the ministers are to rely on “spiritual friends” when they need to care for the sick.” (Thompson 106) The way of life that Francis created after rejecting his family and helping the lepers is shown in this passage.…

The Church of St. Paul’s – more commonly known as St. Paul’s Cathedral or even just St. Paul’s – was, until 1962, the largest building in all of London. While it may no longer be the largest church – second only to Liverpool Cathedral – it is still one of the most famous and easily recognizable. Situated atop of Ludgate Hill (the highest point in London), it is actually the fifth known church built on the site, all of which were dedicated to Saint Paul. Designed and built by Christopher Wren in the late 17th century, it is a combination English Renaissance and English Baroque style architecture. Commissioned by King Ethelbert of Kent, the original St. Paul’s was built in 604 AD and became home to Mellitus who was consecrated as Bishop of the East Saxons not long beforehand.…
