An analysis of educational leadership reveals one of the many challenges facing a principal is the development of the school’s value system. The rituals of the school often demonstrate to the students, staff and community what the school values as important. The principal is often the leader of these rituals and they reaffirm the values of the school through what they attend to (Deal & Peterson, 1994, p. 30). Thus, the principal becomes a symbol of what to value and believe in.…
Kids across the nation are standing out and making a difference. Whether its just picking up around the community or starting a foundation people can make a difference. Many people think kids are just in the way and don’t ever actually make a difference in their community. Blare Gooch started with a teddy bear, Alex Scott started with a cup of lemonade, and Zach Hunter started with a few pennies around his house. The smallest things can turn into a life changing difference.…

Banding together in solidarity with other male organizations on campus, the Health and Awareness Team sponsored the Polished Man project at Ramapo College to raise awareness about widespread violence against children. “The meaning of the campaign is to stand against violence and let children know that there is somebody out there for them,” said Amauris M. Peralta Muños, member of Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. “If any of our incoming freshmen or students have been abused as kids, we want them to feel open and know that there are people here who will support them no matter what. We will not judge them for their pasts.”…
For ten years, the family-fun event with music, racing, ribbons, and friends became a summertime attraction for many families in the Narragansett area. Hundreds of children, including myself, gathered to participate in friendly track and field events. When I became too old to participate, I began volunteering to set up the races, execute the event, and clean up the track upon the meet’s completion.…
Except, this time the volunteers were asked to help at the GBMS Color Guard Club. I had treasured the minute amount of time I spent with the rising ninth graders that I thought it would be crazy for me not to help. We started out with a few volunteers from Grassfield coming to help out but around the second month it was just me, Chris and Donny. The club taught over 100 girls and boys the basics of spinning a flag, marching in step together and at the end of the club, a routine. This routine was performed during “middle school night” at Great Bridge High School where the middle schoolers took the field and spun and played their instruments like a high school marching band.…
The prevalent tradition at Ravenswood Middle School is to send all of the eighth graders on an outing to Washington, D.C. for celebratory reasons. Months in advance, they disclosed that there was going to be a writing contest on "Why are Veterans important?" Four recipients would be chosen to participate in the laying of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery. Following this remarkable opportunity, I simultaneously felt inspired to prevail. The writing process was extremely easy due to the volume of passion I have for our Veterans...…
This week, as we left class, Angylyne and I discussed the documentary, Precious Knowledge, all the way to the Armitage el stop where we parted ways. It was hard to believe that the education board of Arizona had such a problem with the Latin Studies Program. In high school, I took both AP US History and AP European History. In both of these courses, we learned about radical thinkers and doers and people who decided to revolt against the status quo. Both of these courses are fine for students to learn, it’s fine for us to learn about Napoleon and the American Revolution, so what makes the history of Latin American different?…
Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body reacts to too much sugar in the blood stream. This means the sugar level is too high and uncontrollable. Type 2 diabetes is a disease that is built up overtime and develops as your body slowly begins to gradually produce less insulin(known as a progressive condition). Insulin is a hormone created by the islet cells (a cluster of cells located in the pancreas). It is called insulin resistance when the body is unable to produce enough insulin (which is most common in diabetics).…
Education today, in my opinion, is not doing what it should be doing to ensure that America is actually living up to what it is known for...the land of opportunities. I believe that education should be about an empowering experience that helps students discover their passions, fosters their critical thinking skills, promotes an environment that accepts diversity, and encourages students to apply to skills to the outside world. This should be he purpose of American public schooling because it will help society adapt to changing times and encourage the growth of a well-rounded, modern, and accepting culture which in the long run help foster peace and equality. I am sure that there are many schools in America that try and foster all of things,…
