In the movie, it’s shown that they locked him up like an animal, forced him for entertainment purposes, and hunted him down like an escaped felon. But in reality, Squanto had a very good relationship with the Englishmen and in fact he was used as a translator instead of entertainment purposes. The movie showed that Squanto was historically significant but not for all the right reasons. He was respected by Englishmen as he was a very important asset as you can see from the evidence of how he brought the pilgrims and the Native Americans together for Diplomacy. In the movie, another Native American with Squanto began to develop how to speak English with the Englishmen and thus was used as another way to setup a fight between Squanto and one of his fellow Native Americans. No such report was shown in articles where another Native American came back on a vessel with Squanto who spoke English as good as him otherwise, Squanto wouldn’t be so essential to Diplomacy between the Europeans and Native Americans. During the movie towards the end, it did show how some of the tribes fought against the Europeans and Squanto, acting as the peacemaker, did in fact have them settle their differences. Many tribes in fact wanted to fight but Squanto brought them together and settled on a treaty where they both can share the lands and allow trade between both sides. Squanto was captured, but wasn’t captured by the Englishmen. He was initially captured by the Spanish and then traveled to the Europeans. Even though in the movie it showed Squanto helping out monks (and although that never actually happened) Squanto did indeed help other people from different races and I believe that the introduction of monks from the movie served as a way of showing what Squanto had
