Many hobbies Mary enjoys doing are often what others would consider normal. Some we may be familiar with and some not so much. Spelunking is one hobby some of you may never have heard of until now. This extraordinary sounding activity is actually the exploring of caves; according to Mary Arkansas has several caves to go spelunking in. Mary and her stepfather often do this together; this is whom she learned the hobby from, and to this day Mary will still gather friends and show them the ropes. Painting & making arts and crafts for her children’s rooms, along with hiking the trails of Diamond Head, are a few of the other hobbies Mary enjoys. “They are some of the prettiest trails I have ever seen”, says Mary. “I love to just get lost in nature and see where the trails take me; I have some of my best moments, alone under the sun, while hiking around town”. All in all any down time Mary may get, she considers a hobby as well, “It isn’t often I get to do “mom” activities, so I take it when I can get it”, she says. Saving lives is also a main reason for Mary setting out to earn her degree. “You have to have a strong stomach, and that’s something I’ve got”. This was one of the first things Mary said while talking about her degree and why it’s something she knows she’s the perfect fit for. When asking if Mary was willing to locate she eagerly said yes! Seven years is the goal Mary has set for herself when it comes to relocating. Mary has her sights set on many goals in her life, but earning her degree along with setting an outstanding example for her children are at the top of her list. Not to mention being able to watch her succeed throughout her journey in the surgical nursing field, and see how our friendship grows, is definitely exciting. Ordinarily, this type of essay would make some students nervous, however, that was not the case, and it is with great appreciation that Mary was easy going and willing to let a fellow classmate and a virtual stranger interview her, and ask intimate questions.
