Soviet Union During The 1930s Essay

During the 1930’s the Soviet Union was going through economical and military changes. Civilians were living through some hardships both physically, emotionally and mentally. Many of this could be looked at by how the leadership was dealing with the economy. World War I started before the murder of Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo in 1914 but this is what perpetuated it to start. How did the poor leadership from the government officials weaken the country econom-ically and militarily? The Soviet Union suffered drastically during the Great Depression because of poor lead-ership. It started with Hitler who took over office after German chancellor Paul van Hindenberg. Hitler had a troubled life and suffered physically and mentally which are some of the reasons why he was the leader he was. It stated when he was a child he lost his parents and lived off the inheritance and orphan pension ran out he became homeless. He painted post cards and sold them that is how he was able to eat and then he slept on park benches at night and sometimes he was forced to live in homeless shelters. Hitler was attracted to pornography, read a magazine name Ostra which contained anti-Semitic overtones, Wild West books name Old Shatterheand by a German writer Karl May, music by Richard Wagner who also had anti-Semite and German nationalist. During the war Hitler was what was called a runner, but was hit by a gas attack which blinded him for a couple weeks. “The attack left him blinded for several weeks, after which he received the German Iron Cross medal for valor, and was promoted to the rank of Cor-poral, the highest military rank he would ever achieve.” He put on the uniform as a way to show support for the troops during the second World War II. He told them he wouldn’t take it off till they came home. It was more of a fashion statement to everyone and maybe a scare tact for some civilians. The first steps that Hitler took to create a socialist party called the Nationalist Socialist Party where they refereed themselves as “Nazi’s” and then he wanted to disband the Weimer Republic and begin the rise of the “Third Riech,” which was to exterminate the Jewish religion because he thought they were responsible for the defeat of Germany during World War I. This would soon be called the Holocaust and one of the worst ploys to exterminate a race. Germany suffered economically and morally during the World War I. Hitler thought that the German race was more superior to any other race and started to influence and build up the Ger-man military. Hitler joined forces with Mussolini, “ a Fascist Dictator of Italy, as well as Japan, began to create a coalition between their three countries. The coalition later came to be known as the Axis.” During the Depression unemployment was from 1.3 milliton to 5 million which was almost the same amount as the rest of Europe combined. Industrial production fell by half and 43 percent of the labor force was unemployed. He was interested in economics so he started to talk to German workers as a political ploy. Hitler aimed his speeches toward the middle class and younger generations. Hitler covered his anti-Semitism and racist nationalism while he was grow-ing his political party. He didn’t want the people to really know who he really was because he was a master manipulator. This was one of his quotes about people “"the driving force of the most important changes in the world,” and they “were easily driven by fanaticism rather than knowledge.” He did this through catchy phrases or slogans that people would remember and agree with even if they didn’t understand the true intentions …show more content…
Buildings had been demolished because of the war, transpiration was a problem because the roads were destroyed and trade was slowed down massively from other countries because the bridges and ports were useless. By the end of the war all side had suffered death, but not like the Europeans who out of their population lost over 40 million people crippled psychologically, the mass killings of the Jews or physically from the
