This week in clinical, I met SON’s competency 2.1 uses appropriate interview techniques in assessment. My patient was less than 24 hrs postpartum after having a vaginal delivery with forceps. She stated a pain level over 6 and received medication earlier in the day. My classmate and I then asked her what her pain level was a few hours after her first dose of pain medication. She stated her pain level did not change much and it was still over a 6. Based on our assessment and under the guidance of our clinical instructor, Elizabeth, we deemed it appropriate to administer medication.

In addition to SON’s competency 2.1, I met SON’s competency 4.5 performs previously learned treatments and procedures skillfully. My classmate and changed the sheets

Goal #3: Learn how to be more decisive in decision-making situations As a people pleaser, I have difficulty making decisions because I want to make sure everyone’s opinions and ideas are valued. However, this often leads to internal conflict because I take too long to make decisions, out of fear that I am making the wrong decision, hurting other peoples’ feelings or being overly assertive. I find that I seek approval from others in order to validate my opinions in decision-making situations. Being more decisive will help me become a more confident and purpose-driven leader, which will demonstrate to my team members that I can lead them and that they can trust the choices I make. I will know that I have achieved this goal when others recognize my promptness in making decisions.…
