Giovanni and Lusanna The narrative of Giovanni and Lusanna tells of an unusual situation in mid-fifteenth century Florence, when a bourgeois woman, Lusanna, took her forbidden lover, Giovanni, to court over the legal status of their secret marriage. The two had been covert lovers for twelve years before Giovanni publicly married an aristocrat woman instead of Lusanna. The chain of events was captured, by Ser Filippo Mazzei, as a notary of the court proceedings. These included court transcripts and witness accounts.…

As stated earlier, E.M Cook was one of the scholars that contributed to the “son of God” debate and argued that the “son” was a negative figure. Cook offered the most comprehensive defense to the negative interpretation in his article, “4Q246”. Cook states “the Akkadian prophecies provide the most convincing background for 4Q246” and he argues for a direct relationship with these scrolls . The Akkadian prophecies introduced by Cook are a compilation of five works that date from the twelfth-century B.C.E to the Seleucid period . In Cooks article, he highlights twelve traits that Aramaic and Akkadian texts exhibit in common; however, on further examination, Collins reveal that they are not as impressive as they initially seem .…
Carry On My Wayward Son The name the British gave the First World War speaks for itself; the Great War, it sounds like a title to an epic where battle is romanticized. Many men who enlisted expected the war to be great indeed, it would be quick and they would return as heroes. The reason the British men expected a great war was partly due to the fact that Britain had not been involved in a full-scale war since 1871, and ever since the idea of war had become a mythical journey, where boys became men. This idealization of a fast and easy war combined with the mechanization of war meant the soldiers received a sudden realization of the cruelties modernized warfare entailed.…
Happiness is an aspect of life that all people try to achieve. Whether they know it or not, people hold the key to their own happiness. Although external factors usually affect people’s happiness in one way or another, in the end, their true happiness can only be found within themselves. In Son, Andrew Solomon discusses the difficulties and differences parents face when it comes to being able to accept and understand their children in an abnormal situation. Meanwhile, Daniel Gilbert talks about how one cannot be happy because of regrets due to inaction, in his work, Immune to Reality.…
Duccio and Giotto paint, arguably, their most influential pieces during the first decade of the twelfth century . Giotto is commissioned by Enrico Scrovegni in Padua to fresco the Arena Chapel to reconcile himself with God over the sins of his father’s usury. In contrast, Duccio is commissioned by the Church fathers of Sienna to paint a panel altarpiece for the Duomo . Giotto utilizes his private patronage to develop new principles of dramatic narrative while Duccio sticks to the Bible stories and develops a variation of Gothic style. Despite differences in technique, location and function of the work, and patronage, these two artists were united in creating a new form of visual language helping to launch the period art historians now call…

The Unfree and Unsafe Labour Conditions: Portrayed in the Lives of Mexicans Farm Workers Do we want to live in a nation with social closure towards migrant workers or do we want to provide autonomy towards such workers? Well, many of the times it is problematic for individuals to have a say because of the class and social inequality that exists in their workplace. Many of those with advantages and privileges may be able to adapt to changing conditions, but marginalized groups are often at a disadvantage to do so. Correspondingly, this idea is evident in the documentary El Contrato, by Min Sook Lee. The story delineates the struggles that Mexican workers migrating to Southern Ontario go through while being tomato labourers.…

Hi Jacinda,I agree is best not to discuss our personal beliefs at work like religions and politics because we all have different opinions. For instance, in my work, we don't discuss politics because the office is divided about the new elections. It is best if we all keep our affiliation to ourselves because some can be very passionate while others can have negative perspectives of the future candidates. Also, religion is a strong topic that should not be discussed because people might interpret as discrimination. For instance, people might believe that you are trying to change their beliefs.…
