I propose that this paradigm of gaming in education should be taken a step further and should be used towards making a virtual, yet education interactive gaming system in which students can both enjoy and learn. Allowing students to communicate virtually can enhance educational gaming by allowing students to engage in a discussion or debate on the best tactics for approaching a solution to a problem. Digital gaming has proven to be one of the “largest and fastest growing market segment” of the entertainment industry (McClarty et al. 6). Bring this in the education system can prove be worth billions of dollars (Kirriemuir & McFarlane, 2004). Professors will be the medium between gaming and students as they can also facilitate and transfer skills with the students through gaming (McClarty et al. 13). This is because games work best when paired with an “effective pedagogy” (Squire, 2002). Some of the features of this gaming with science majors will include an ability to collectively decide the best way to go about curing a disease, or performing a surgery. These features of the game can challenge students and provide them with strategies that will prove to be useful (McClarty et al. 12).
