“Black Power is not a recent or isolated phenomena: it has grown out of the ferment of agitation and activity by different people and organizations in many black communities over the years” (Karenga 2010 Pg.157). “Black Power can be divided into four basic tendencies or thrust: 1) the religious thrust; 2) the cultural thrust; 3) the political thrust; and 4) the economic thrust” (Karenga 2010 Pg.158). Police racism has been an ongoing problem for Black America in 2016. (Police abuse and brutality is an enduring problem for African Americans, especially young black males, involving cases of profiling, framing, beating, torture, shooting and killing. These police practices continued into the new century following some of the most notorious brutal and Deadly examples.” (Karenga 2010 Pg. 180) Although Jim crow laws have been eliminated, racial control now functions through the criminal justice system. More African American males are under correctional control, then there were African American slaves in the 1950’s, this includes mass incarceration, probation and parole disfranchisement. Also black men are 2.5 likely to be killed by a cop than non-blacks. In 2016 Black America has suffered from Un-Equal justice against police brutality. Alton Sterling brutal murder by law enforcement was a clear example of Black America political Disfranchisement. This case generated riots, protest and many robust debates throughout the majority of African American communities and political parties. These riots led to numerous interracial wars between law enforcement and predominately black communities all over the U.S. Protest went on for months while all social media and news broadcast stations were discussing the racial relations between African-Americans and law-enforcement. Majority of black communities participated in campaigns and protest to get the attention of the justice system. In my opinion America has become so manipulated by the interracial conflict than the tragedy itself. No justice was served #BlackLivesMatter. Black America has faced an Economical disadvantage for centuries. Although “there are several reasons offered for black unemployment like low educational levels, lack of job skills and the recurring recession.” (Karenga 2010 Pg.337) Black America has continued to excel over the years owning businesses, homes and holding high positions in major corporations. Nowadays people criticize poor single parents who remain home with their children and stereotype them to be lazy and unfit, instructing them to go to work. Women are held to the highest expectation as a mother a provider and wife, the role of the women has changed and we are expected to be the head of the home. Our first women was recently nominated to be President of the U.S in 2016. In the 1900’s “Parents would tell their daughters to look for and marry someone who can take care of them.” (Karenga 2010 Pg.280) Woman have also changed religiously, Islamic women have shifted the cultural tradition changing the way many Women and families pray. In Philadelphia where I’m from the majority of women are living an Islamic lifestyle more openly. Religion is often more excepted in Women. in fact, “the tendency on Womanist is above all defined by its rootedness in the Christian tradition.” (Karenga 2010 Pg.
