People are exposing their feelings in social media rather than talking about their emotions in person. For instance, someone can express their feelings by putting smiling emoticons through the media but be depressed behind screens. In Sherry Turkle’s article, “The Flight From Conversation”, she asserts, “Researchers around the world are busy inventing sociable robots, designed to be companions to the elderly, to children, to all of us.” (Par. 17). People are starting to feel lonely to the point where robots are being their only hope of expressing their emotions; even though robots have no emotions as humans. Some people might think otherwise about the emotional effects that social media has on society. Researchers have proved that text messaging has doubled on a daily basis (Stout Par.4). As people stay attached to their phones, it potential leads for them to seek attention by posting unnecessary/harmful posts about others appearances or beliefs. Stouts interviews Jeffrey G. Parker, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Alabama; Parker informs the readers,” In general, the worries over cyberbullying and sexting have overshadowed a look into the really nuanced things about the way technology is affecting the closeness properties of friendship” (Par.7). Cyber-bullying has taken a great impact as social media increases. When using technology, it can have negative outcomes and be the cause of risks or even deaths such as someone exposing nudity about someone else later leading into depression being one of the leading cause of a death. Some people will say that when using social media, it makes them happy and relaxed, but not realize that it 's
