Social media has taken over the internet, and has disrupted the American dream. Social media has become the new world and it is giving people the freedom to socialize with people around the world. With this new trend of technology, people can get distracted, and forget that it is a social media site a not reality. Some ways social media conflicts with the American dream are income, job opportunities, and privacy.
Many people from across the world would love to come to America because of how America represents itself. The American dream that is portrayed to us, through commercials, television shows, and movies consist of the following; a college education, a successful job, and a beautiful family, with a big house and white picket fence. Social media consists of the internet and the ability to communicate with other people from across the world. A few distinguished social media sites are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. Characteristics of these social media sites consist of, people can communicate with one another, and pry into other people’s lives. People post pictures, videos, and comments about what is going on in a someone’s personal life. Social media has its positives and negatives, an example of using social media is one has the ability to connect with people across the world. A person living in Japan can easily keep in contact with family and friends easier and social media also keeps people up to date with what is going on in the world via news.
