Refugee camps are displayed as compact, brutal and fierce environments. In real life, they are even worse. Staples uses Najmah’s refugee voyage to show a percentage of the struggle of a refugee today. Refugees are a crisis, in books and real…

The prescribed text “Go Back To Where You Came From” by Ivan O’Mahoney follows a documented journey of six participants with conflicting views on refugees and asylum seekers. The related text “Neighbours” by Tim Winton, explores a short story on the process of discovery of a young couple’s experiences as they move into a new multicultural neighbourhood. Through human experiences and sudden and unexpected discoveries, individuals are challenged and new perceptions and understandings arise. Unexpected discoveries, challenge the views of the participants in the documentary series, where assumptions and beliefs are denounced by human aspects of the world .Raye is a very predominant participant throughout the entire documentary as it is believed…
As such, both texts and their authors challenge the assumptions of positive discoveries and instead focusing on the confronting and shocking aspects of discovery to validate the lessons they teach the audience. Therefore, both texts are provocative in that they all have the ability to challenge individuals’ assumptions and transform their attitudes and lives. During the reverse refugee journey, the audience is constantly challenged to confront the reality of asylum seeker and refugees. By living varcariously through the participants and virtually experiences the reality of refugees, the audience gain knowledge and attain growth.…
Australia uses approximately $4 billion every year to evade their overall responsibility specified under the Refugees Convention. Australia wishes to be considered as being one of the most civilized nations in the world, therefore, when some of the people at the shores are crying for help, they are taken into consideration and offered help in terms of security, food and place to stay. For many years, the asylum seekers in Australia have been treated badly even worse compared to an animal and further, animals have better rights compared to the rights revolving around the refugees (Burnside & Reynolds, 2014, p. 1). Therefore, despite massive torture directed at asylum seekers, research has not established any form of political profit that the…
Refugees should be excepted into the United States of America because it is constitutionally right. The individual right as a refugee is important. An argument is that this nation is built on Christians and the nation should be made up of just Christians. This logic is absurd! Christians are called to help those in need.…
A Call to Action in A Short Film About Chasing Hope By Taylor Pastrick One of the great things about being a creative mind is having a voice. Those creative minds who use that voice and audience to help an important cause are making the most of their platform and ability. This is the case with James Brown and Bill Irving's A Short Film About Chasing Hope. They lend their collective voice and ability in filmmaking to spotlight the importance of the ongoing refugee crisis. When you watch the news or read news articles about the refugee crisis, especially when you are situated here in America, it seems like something that is almost not real because you are not experiencing it or its aftermath.…
Aeschylus in his piece The Suppliants of 470 BC writes a tragic narrative regarding fifty maidens of Egyptian King Danaus who escaped from Africa to Greece. Their father accompanied them in the escape as they run to avoid marrying their fifty cousins, which would have been committing incest in the eyes of God. In the ancient Greek city-states asylum was granted to only those who took refuge in a temple or sacred place and called upon the gods for protection. The Suppliants therefore, had to be officially accepted as asylum seekers and be protected under the divine safety net by the city’s officials (Fraenkel, 1974). The Suppliants in today’s world reflects the refugee crisis and how countries respond to asylum seekers when in grave distress caused by either conflict, war or…
According to statistics published by Immigration Department during the 2013-14 financial year, 6500 visas were granted to refugees who had applied to be resettled to Australia. The majority of these people originally fled persecution from countries such as Afghanistan (2530), Myanmar (1145) and Iraq (830). The Department also granted 300 refugees category visas to Syrian nationals (Karlsen, 2014). The Department of Social Services works improved the lifetime wellbeing of migrants and refugees settling in Australia by responding to their specific needs, encouraging their independence and participation in the Australian community. This essay will discuss Australia's refugees, particularly Burmese group who had applied to be resettled to Australia.…
Between immigrants and refugees there are many similarities but also many differences. Immigrants and refugees both are similar somehow, which, way or form. They both are looking for a new place to live. Both immigrants and refugees have a language barriers when they arrive in a new country. With that they both get menial jobs because they don’t know the language.…
The Republican Club refused to collaborate with us. As a Muslim Student Association officer, I decided not to give up. The refugee event was to bring a smile on many kids’ face that was more important than anything else. ‘What if one of those refugees turns out to be a terrorist?’ asked a member of the Republican Club.…
Recently Americans have had the issue of whether or not to take in the refugees from Syria, but if you look at all the problems they could bring into this country, there is no moral obligation for America to take in refugees. Refugees could drag down the economy by taking jobs from citizens or using tax payers money for welfare and etc. They could also bring diseases such as hepatitis, typhoid, cholera or dysentery are just a few that Syria is expecting to outbreak with the crowding of their people. They could even drugs into the country according to Ara News a lot of them trade with drugs. Bringing more people into America would take jobs away from citizens.…
For my ethnographic research, I am planning on observing, how it is that the ongoing crisis in Middle Eastern countries such as, Syria and Lebanon, has propelled their citizens, to escape and seek refuge elsewhere. In most cases they have sought refuge in the European continent. These refugees have arrived in many different countries, such as Italy, Netherlands, England, Greece, Estonia, and Spain. I consulted 6 different sources of literature that portray what the situation for these asylum seekers is in each of those countries, focusing mainly on the integration of these immigrants in the normal European society of each particular country. I will attempt to use the information learned in the different ethnographic pieces I read, so that I…
On January 27 President Donald J Trump passed an executive order on refugees and foreigner to ban the travel from the 7 countries in the middle east entering the United State of America. This is a major issue where it disrupts thousands of people physically, emotionally and economically. The majority of people visa has to be detained and are stuck in that country for next 90 day or even longer if this problem does not solve. Friends and family members have striped apart as of right now due to this order. People traveling on a business trip or even a vacation are being detained.…
“Being a refugee is much more than political studies, it is the most pervasive kind of cruelty that can be exercised against a human being” Deadly silence swept through the night, dispensing uneasy tension and fear across the bombarded city of Daraa. Terror walked around our streets, loaded with heavy ammunition aiming their hatred towards innocent civilians. We did not dare to muster a single sound in our wooden creaky house, concealing ourselves from the danger within. In this town, a single sound meant a brutal slaughter of families and the innocent.…
