While this is not possible in a caste system but is very possible in the class system. Intergenerational mobility is when the kids or grandkids might have a different class than the previous generation. This is what i always wanted to do in my family being the first kid in my family to go to college, I just never knew there was a word for the act. Structural mobility is when the economy is what decides if an entire group rises or falls like how industrialization improved the standards of living so that the classes moved up in society. Functionalism and Conflict theory are all subjects that we have touched on in class or otherwise but they appear again in this chapter showing how important these two theories are in the sociological world. Conflict theory involves the disputes over the various resources in society are worth fighting over which makes sense when we put it in the context of social Stratification. The different classes all have resources that people are looking for.Functionalism on the other hand is the theory that everyone is needed in society so that the system can still work. I do not know which theory if more true but I personally prefer Functionalism because people want to be accepted in society. Acceptance is what a lot of people look for in society, people spend a lot of time worrying about how people see them, so it stands to reason that hearing that what they do is as important to society as a doctor might give people some
