The Zika virus is transmitted by mosquitos from person to person and also transmitted sexually. The Zika virus was first isolated in 1947 in the Zika Forest of Uganda. The Virus began to spread from the original founded area to the americas starting in 2007. In the United States, there has been 2,964 cases confirmed of the zika virus. There are also 1,080 confirmed cases of Zika in pregnant women. The virus is growing fast and this is where the people of the United States must become aware of the problem and take precautions. The virus causes many issues for many people in the world today, especially pregnant women. Pregnant women who travel to exotic countries must be very cautious and aware of their surroundings. The Zika virus causes many problems for pregnant women and their babies. If the virus is transmitted to the women and spreads to the baby it causes many birth defects. One major birth defect that is known is microcephaly, which is a condition where the baby 's brain is eating away at itself causing the head to be abnormally smaller than a normal size head. There have been many studies done to see if there is a link between Zika and the birth defect but nothing has said that it has been confirmed except for the Director of the communicate diseases surveillance department at the ministry of health who states, “We don’t have any doubt about the link between Zika and Microcephaly.” (Maierovitch.) The surrounding areas that have had confirmed cases for the virus are taking many hits to their social and economical effects of their society. This is causing many issues to arise and nothing 's getting solved. The Caribbean Public Health Agency states, “ As travel increases, the number of Zika cases among travelers will likely increase and the potential negative impact on Caribbean tourism.”(Agency.)
