The gastropod mollusk also known as snail is capable of pulling back into its shell. There are thousands of snail species that live on land, in freshwater, and in saltwater. The compostion of land snails is immensly different from other animals. While there may be some people that find them fascinating, others still think they are ugly and gross. When you start to break down all of the parts of the body though they definitely have an interesting anatomy and physiology (BioExpedition, 2014).
For land snails, the shell can often be distinct in appearance depending on the snail species. You have some that are coned and you have others that are more flat. However, each snail has a twisting look to them because of how they grow in their shells.

This fluid is produced from the mucous gland. It produces this slimy substance in order to reduce friction while moving on dry surfaces. Depending on the species of snails, they will either have one or two sets of tentacles located on the top of their head. Species that have both sets, their eyes are on the longer tentacles and their sense of smell located within the shorter tentacles.
