History
Attica is a very famous prison in New York. 1,281 inmates decided to start a riot in D yard and taking 39 total hostages. The standoff went on for 4 days before the president decided to stop negotiating with the inmates and take the facility back by force. On September 13, 1971 10 hostages and 29 inmates were killed; 89 others were seriously injured (History Staff, 2010). In 2004 JTVCC had its own hostage situation causing the Medium-High Housing Unit (MHU) to be on lock down for several hours. A male inmate decided to take a young female counselor hostage in a room for several hours. He demanded to speak to the warden, however, he was denied.
