Throughout the movie, the director made use of scene transitions to represent the aging of Jamal and Salim. For example, the use of transitions that show aging can be seen in the scene where Jamal and Salim have finally escaped Maman and his crew which lead them to a train. In this train scene, Jamal and Salim are trying to steal food from the train and then they are knocked down out of the train when a man catches them. As Jamal and Salim are rolling down the hill, they suddenly aged. This was a perfect way to show how the brothers have aged rather than using simple text saying, “two years later,” to better show the progression of age. Another time the use of scene transitions helped show the progression of age was the scene after Jamal and Salim decided to split up after a fight. With the use of a Samuel Colt’s pistol, Salim was able to scare Jamal away from Latika and himself. After this, the scene transitions to Jamal being grown up and is now working as a tea person at a computing, consumer service building. The director’s use of age progression with the use of scene transitions was perfect in that the audience were easily able to identify the aging of the brothers without the use of subtext. Acting was perfect due to the fact that actors that played Jamal and Salim came straight from the slums, thus acting seemed to be natural. Camera transitions helped make act progression more naturally and helped the movie flow better. Also, the central motives of Jamal against his conflicts helped the drawed the audience attention while still progressing the movie.
