Excessive noise, or even not enough noise, can lead to an individual losing a sufficient amount of sleep. Most people have to sleep with a slight noise, such as music or even crickets outside their window, while others, have to use earmuffs or pillows to sound out noises for a more peaceful sleep. It is far more challenging for a patient to get an ample amount of sleep in the hospital for the reasons that they have constant evaluations throughout day and night and also since there are other patients on the floor that nurses and doctors have to tend to. The noise level tends to be very high in such health organizations, such as those in intensive or critical care. The reason for this is because the constant assessment that a patient has to take with the nurses and doctors to reflect on their conditions, the surgeries that take place, and of course, the other things, including emergencies, that happen on the floor. This noise control program will emphasized the need for better sleep health. The program is for everyone who feels they are deprived of their sleep; however, there will be a more set target for hospitals with intensive care units and critical care units. There will be a determination of “relationships between noise and patients’ sleep during their hospital stay” (Xie, Kang, & Mills, 2009).
