A 170 cubic inch, six-cylinder engine was planned for this car, but it was too long to fit in the engine bay. As a result, the engine was tilted at a 30° angle and the water pump was moved next to the block, which shortened the assembly. The slant six gained electronic ignition in 1973, a strong, reliable system over the long haul - though the ballast resistor tends to fail, making starting impossible.
