I’ve spent the past couple of weeks focusing on features of home ownership related to buying a home - a first home, in particular. I wrote about choosing the right home for you and I briefly covered some of the broader aspects of financing. Today I’m starting the discussion about the other end of the spectrum: selling your home or property in Skagit County.

Deciding to Sell Your Skagit Valley Real Estate

The decision to sell your home is a big one. The motivating factors to sell abound, but here are some of the most common we see in Skagit Valley real estate:

Family changes - marriage, death, divorce, births/adoptions and other family issues can provide motivation to sell
Employment situations - promotions, layoffs and career changes

A less-than-perfect home with sound plumbing, roof, substructure, etc. is easier to sell than a gorgeous house on ample property in Skagit County with a dilapidated fence, broken water heater and basement flood damage.

While there are many, many ways to increase the value of your home quickly and easily, here I’m going to talk about a few of the interior and exterior facets of curb appeal on which you can focus. These areas are often improved relatively easily (meaning you don’t always need to hire a contractor) and expediently - they don’t have to break the bank, either.

Exterior

Make sure the roof is in good condition and no shingles need to be replaced.
If necessary, repainting or touching up an okay paint job could mean thousands of extra dollars at selling time. Keep in mind a pressure washer can work wonders, as well.
If flower beds, gardens and outdoor structures are present, consider cleaning them up and making them pretty. Remember, the key word here is
