The American dream is the idea of freedom, equality and that there is a opportunity available for each American. The American dream has been seen differently through each set of eyes. As we start out our Junior year all we have ever studied was the American dream and what it actually is or what many authors have ever perceived it to be. There has been two major books that have intently focused on the American dream. The Great Gatsby and the Death of a salesman.
The death of a salesman is a 1949 play written by American playwright Arthur Miller. The Death of a salesman shows there is a chance for anyone to do anything that they want but you need to put your mind to it. Willy is a traveling salesman who doesn 't make much money but is willing to go above and beyond to die knowing he has accomplished the American dream. He wants to be known and liked. He wants to die knowing that the entire town will be at his funeral. Willy and his wife linda have two sons together Biff and Happy.
The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald is all about a young man who is in love and looking for happiness.. In the book the Death of a Salesman you have Willy who is so determined to show everyone that he is perfectly happy with making the money that he is. No matter how many job offers he has received he has turn everyone of them down. In the The Great Gatsby Gatsby is absolutely willing to get Daisy 's attention in any way that he could. No matter what anyone told him he never listened. This book shows that you need to follow your heart and what it says not your mind. If Daisy would of stayed and waited to see what had or is anything really did happen to Gaspy then none of this would be going
