Russian Revolution vs. American Revolution The Russian and American Revolutions were wars where people revolted in order to get what they wanted. The Russian’s had just got out of World War I and was struggling, especially from hunger. The American Revolution took place in order to try and get independence from England, who was holding them back from gaining their freedom and becoming their own nation, like they first came over to be. The Russian Revolution and American Revolution had many similarities and differences. The first similarity was that both of the revolutions started with a smaller fight or battle. The American Revolution was sparked by the Boston Massacre, which started as a snowball fight in front the Custom’s house in Boston, Massachusetts. Soon, the British, who were in Boston watching the Patriots from King George III’s orders, were gathering around and someone from the British side, who everyone is very unclear who it was, shouted the words to start firing their guns. Five colonists died, and three got wounded. This was the start to the American Revolution. The spark that commenced the Russian Revolution was an event called, “Bloody Sunday.” Father Gregory Gapon led protesters into St. Petersburg to “make their demands” but imperial forces open fired on the citizens, killing and wounding many. From this massacre, riots broke out throughout the country, and everyone was enraged. The Russian people came together as a whole in order to fight back, just like the American colonists came together trying to form a plan to get their freedom from England. In an overview, the American colonist’s revolted against King George III and parliament. They wanted their freedom from England but England would not give it to them. The Russians wanted their freedom and new government from Czar Nicholas II, who was a tyrant, and was running their government wrong. Although many people helped the cause in the colonies, the essential leader of the American Revolution was George Washington. They had a central figure to depend upon when fighting the British. The single leader in the Russian Revolution was a man named Vladimir Lenin, and he wanted to change the Provisional Government.
