Elizabeth was an important piece of the War of the Roses. When Elizabeth’s first husband died, the two sons she had with him lost all their land. To regain it back she pleaded to the king to regain back her land. The king found her beautiful and wanted to marry her. Elizabeth accepted and the two were married in secrecy. The king’s mother did not approve so she helped Henry VI regain power for a brief time. When King Henry VI and his son both died in battle, and Elizabeth Woodville was crowned queen after Edward IV regained his power. Various actions soon came after the marriage of Edward and Elizabeth. After dealing with many problems the two were able to live peacefully for a while before King Edwards early death. Since Edwards son was too young to proclaim the throne, Edwards brother, Richard, was declared Lord protector. Richard didn’t want Elizabeth’s family to gain more power so he hid away Elizabeth’s brother and younger son. He soon executed the two securing his throne. After hearing of the executions, Elizabeth entered an alliance with Margaret Beaufort, the mother of the only Lancastrian heir, Henry Tudor. Elizabeth and Margaret came to an agreement that Henry would marry Elizabeth’s eldest daughter Elizabeth of York. In 1845, Henry defeated Richard III while invading England. As promised, he married Elizabeth’s eldest daughter and he was soon crowned King Henry VII. The Tudors dynasty was created and Elizabeth was returned her title and honors. Leif Erikson was an important part of European history. Leif Erikson was believed to be the first European to reach the North American. Leif sailed off course on his to way back to Greenland. Upon landing on North America, he explored a region he named Vinland. He named it Vinland after the wild grapes that grew there and the fertility of the land. He established a Norse settlement in Vinland according to the Sagas of Icelanders. Unfortunately, the exact location of Vinland is unknown and has been debated. Both of Elizabeth and Leif were important people in Europe. They are not recognized for their actions as much as other people in history. Queen Elizabeth Woodville isn’t as known as other women in history. Leif Erikson was not remembered or recognized by many for discovering and exploring North America way before Christopher Columbus that is until the creation of Leif Erikson Day. They were both important people. They both affected their countries although in diverse ways but still just as important. They were key characters of their time who should be recognized
