While Victor studied at the University of Ingolstadt, he started a project that altered his entire life. As a scientific experiment, Victor brought life in an unimaginable way. While studying, Victor discovered how to bring inanimate objects to life with electricity. Victor decided to create life using this process and uses the electricity of a storm to bring his creation to life. Victor chose not to give his creation a formal name, and it became known at the Creature. The birth of the Creature marked a great scientific achievement, but Victor chooses to keep his role a secret because he did not know what the Creature was capable of. Although the Creature’s birth was not a typical birth, Victor was the Creature’s father in all aspects. The two did not share similar physical features, but like many children, the Creature shared personality traits with Victor. After it’s birth, Victor abandoned the Creature. The Creature realized that he was alone, but was afraid of how people would react to him. Victor suffered from the death of his younger brother William, who was murdered by the Creature, as well as his beloved household maid, Justine, and his newlywed wife, Elizabeth. The Creature took the people that the Victor loved most out of hatred for Victor. The Creature experienced more loneliness than loss, but dealt with loss when Victor promised to make him a partner, but then fell through on the deal. The Creature’s motives were not evil, but rather to find love and relationships with other, much like Victor with Elizabeth. The Creature killed Elizabeth out of jealousy of the bond Victor and Elizabeth shared. Victor also experienced the same loneliness through the loss of his loved ones; William, Elizabeth, Henry and Justine. In the eyes of the Creature, Victor was responsible for the pain he endured, so he used his life to ensure that Victor would know how it felt to be truly lonely. Victor knew that the Creature was guilty for the murders of his close friends and family which expanded his hatred for the monster he had created.
