Pat, having spent eight months in a mental health hospital in Baltimore for bipolar disorder, is released and sent home to his hometown of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania into the care of his mother and father, Dolores and Patrizio. Soon after returning home, he learns that his wife, Nikki, has moved away and his father has resorted to illegal bookmaking to earn money with hope to open a restaurant. Pat is determined to get his life back together and reconcile with Nikki, who had obtained a restraining order on him after the violent episode that lead to his hospitalization. During his first therapy session with Dr. Cliff Patel he hears his wedding song and is triggered, causing him to go into a rage in the waiting room. When he comes into the room with his therapist, he explains why he was sent to Boston in the first place: he came home from work and heard his wedding song playing and saw a trail of his wife’s clothes. The trail leads him to the bathroom where he sees his wife in the shower with the history teacher, leading him into a blind rage and nearly beating the man to death. Later, after the session, he goes on a run and goes by his old high school and his best friend Ronnie’s house. Ronnie asks him over to dinner and while Pat initially refuses, he decides to attend. While at the dinner he meets Tiffany, Veronica’s widowed sister. They develop a weird friendship while talking about their different illnesses and the medications they have taken. They eventually get together to eat at a diner and after an argument in the street, Tiffany comes to his defense when the police come and he hears his wedding song. After this event, Tiffany agrees to get a letter to Nikki from Pat under one condition: he must be her partner in an upcoming dance competition. He agrees and they begin a rigorous practice schedule. Pat thinks the competition will be a good way for him to show Nikki that he has changed and become a better person. Things are going well for him until his father asks him to attend a Philadelphia Eagles game as a good luck charm because he has all of his money bet on the game. Pat asks for time off from dancing so he can attend and Tiffany allows it, while giving him a typed letter response from Nikki. At the game, some racist fans insult the Indian fans there and after seeing them punch his brother he gets involved and is hauled away by police. The Eagles lose and once at home, Tiffany arrives furious and says that the way she is “reading the signs” her and Pat help the Eagles win because every time they are together the Eagles win. Convinced, Patrizio makes a parlay. He bets double or nothing if the Eagles win their next game against the Cowboys and if Tiffany and Pat get a 5 out of 10 at the competition. On the night of the competition and the football game, Tiffany despairs when she sees Nikki in the crowd and goes to the bar, downing shots. …show more content…
It mainly centered on his bipolar disorder and Tiffany’ depression and grief.
Which brings us to depression and grief, presented by Tiffany. Tiffany had been battling depression since before her husband died. However, the way it presented itself changed drastically after he passed away. Before, Tiffany says she was very depressed and had no interest in sex—which is common in depression cases. According to the movie, he went to Victoria Secret to buy lingerie to try and spice up their marriage. On his way home he stopped to help someone on the side of the road an ended up getting hit. It can be understood that Tiffany has blamed herself for his death. This triggered the change in her depression. She was suddenly very sexually active, even so far as to getting fired from her job because she slept with everyone in the office. This is something that may be more closely tied with her grief from her husband’s sudden death. Grief has a way of changing people and losing her husband, in a way she blames herself for, changed her

However, the viewers can assume Tiffany suffers from a personality disorder. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) states “borderline personality disorder is … marked by a pattern of ongoing instability in moods, behavior, self-image, and functioning [NIMH].” Tiffany meets all the indicators of borderline personality disorder because she often goes from uplifted to very angry, on Pat and Tiffany’s first “date” she cried on Pat’s shoulder then began to hit him all within a span of ten seconds. Also, her self image is very off because she recently got fired from a job because she had sex with everyone in the office, Tiffany says it was because she was depressed. Considering Andrea Yates' psychological condition of having postpartum psychosis along with another mental disorder, I consider the mother of five children in the state of Texas not guilty, therefore it would be unreasonable for her to be sentenced to death. Seeing as she belonged to a branch of Christianity which accepts all the children God concedes them, she had a great deal of responsibility regarding her role as both a mother and a housewife. Her husband, Rusty who worked with NASA, did not spend time in the house helping his wife with his infants whatsoever. As a result of all the work she had thrust upon her, Andrea submerged into a state of insanity.…

When psychotic symptoms are present, bipolar disorder is sometimes misdiagnosed as schizophrenia. Borderline Personality Disorder involves an unescapable pattern of poor impulse control and instability in mood, interpersonal relationships, and self-image. Throughout this movies, Pat mentions how his wife Nikki wanted him to change himself, lose weight, and be more loving towards her. It is clear that he is instable when it comes to emotions, since a song can set him off without a thought and he has shaky and unpredictable relationships with his parents, brother, and Tiffany. As a reader, I was given a decent amount of background at the beginning of the story about Baluta's life. It was easy for me to see that Baluta is constantly struggling with hardship and trying to overcome the tragedy of his past. I immediately sympathized with Baluta and wanted him to prevail, however, Tiffany was a different story. Like Baluta my first opinion of Tiffany was that she did not live in the real world and that she was quite pompous, but after some thinking I realized that I know nothing about Tiffany other than the fact that she has a nice house and wants her walls to match. Tiffany could be undergoing any number of problems and as a reader I am simply not made aware of them.…

However, once the vice principal mentions his weight loss, Pat quickly changes his thoughts and speech and is very thankful and appreciative over the compliment he just received, forgetting about the previous conversation regarding…
