Homework Should Be Banned “A Stanford researcher has found that students in high- achieving communities who spend too much time on homework experience more stress, physical health problems, a lack of balance and alienation from society” (Levy). Homework is thought to help improve test scores, but it actually lowers it. It also gives students health problems and increase stress. High school students should not receive homework because they have too many activities after school, it doesn’t improve test scores, and students receive extra anxiety and stress. High school student should not receive homework because after school activities take up time. Students spend an average of 10 to 65 hours

Leahy said, “The average high school kid today has the same level of anxiety as the average psychiatric patient in the early 1950’s.” Students get no sleep for nights because of homework which can cause health problems like depression.” An average student should get at least 8 hours of sleep. IF one does not get sleep in 24 hours, there brain will be slower than a person who drank 5 bottles of beer. 56 percent of the students considered homework a primary source of stress, according to the (Stanford research)” stated Parker. Also a lot of middle school students are stressing out about college which isn’t till another 6 years. "Colleges are seeing a generation of students who appear to be manifesting increased signs of depression, anxiety, perfectionism and stress," a 2007 American Academy Pediatrics report explains. In conclusion homework should not be given because after school activities take up a lot of time, test scores doesn’t improve, and anxiety and stress increase. Too much time is taken up because of homework and there isn’t enough for after school activities. Homework does not help and improve test score. Homework can also increase anxiety and stress. "Remember to have fun in your high school career," Hughes says, "because I see a lot of kids letting the stress consume them." Aoshfoihdsjnv oihdljkhfpvi oihdlkjhv dfhpmht

It’s an average Tuesday night of the average middle schooler. And, this means homework. How much or how little is of much concern. They may have 30 minutes of homework, or they could have hours upon hours. Because of this some people feel that because of the risk of receiving copious amounts of homework that there should be no homework.…

America's standard of public education has fallen into a deep decline over the last decade. School should be better constructed to teach kids how to prepare for adult life and the real world. Many of the things taught today in school have little to no value to students after they graduate. Curriculum should involve very crucial life skills such as people skills, critical thinking, and financial management. Our Education System barely does anything to cater to those needs, which sets kids up for failure later in life.…

If kids didn’t have to worry about getting certain assignments done for the next day, I do agree with Darter that, kids would have more time to be kids. In her article Darter refers to a study done at Duke University. The study showed that “all it does is negatively impact kids’ attitudes towards school, learning, and their parents(the homework enforcers).” This research shows, not proves, that homework does have an effect on studies ability to do well in…

Kohn points out that there will be a never ending argument when it comes to homework. If teachers do not assign homework, parents will think their children are not getting a good enough education and if they do, that leads to more stress and negative affects on the children. In the article, Kohn stated at the high school level, no study has sustained the belief that homework builds character or teaches good study habits. I believe there is a proper time for homework, elementary and middle school not being of that but homework may be good for high schoolers. In this era, almost everyone goes to college and if we had no preparation on how to time manage beforehand, college would be almost completely impossible for some…

Homework is stressful and overwhelming to do. Especially since you already spent 7 hours at school, or 10 if you’re in a sport, and now you have to go home and do more school technically. If you’re lucky, you can finish in a decent amount of time, but for the most part, there’s quite a few hours down the drain. Not that homework is a waste of time, but it just takes up so much of your evening. Homework helps in the long run, but it’s stressful in the moment.…

Remember the nights when you came home and had worksheet after worksheet to complete for the next day? Sheets full of pointless questions sitting before you while you pondered why in the world your teacher assigned this waste of time. Over the past half century, researchers and academic professors have tried to discover the lingering question of homework’s effectiveness with students’ academic achievements. Countless studies have been conducted to reach consensus verdict on homework’s role in academics. In the recent years, research has increased while more people become uncertain of the effectiveness of homework.…

According to U.S News, high school students with five different classes spend on average 17.5 hours on homework per week. Mountains of homework tend to put immense amounts of pressure on the students causing anxiety, depression, and a lack of sleep. Craig Canapari states that a teenager requires 8-9.5 hours of sleep; not to mention that most only get 6-7 hours of sleep due to staying up late finishing their assignments. Throughout history time spent on homework has nearly doubled. The quality of homework is changing due to teachers assigning long term projects students must complete on their own time.…

“I have thousands of assignments every week; most of them are homework assignments. As a result, I’m cascaded with homework every day, causing me to stay up until 11 o’clock at night more often than not. In conclusion, this is a great threat to my health as a developing teenager. It could stunt my growth, and result in fatigue and stress because everyone knows that no good sleep leads to no good grades. Even if I were to go to bed at a decent time, my homework wouldn’t be finished.…

Eliminating homework allows students the reward of free time and the invaluable time spent with family. Homework creates unnecessary stress and strain for parents and students alike. There are so many reasons people are pro homework. People say “it helps them become smarter or helps them on test,” But there is a lack of evidence where it actually supports their claims, that it helps students at all especially at such a young age. with Alfie Khon “The positive effects of homework are largely mythical.”(Khon). It also seems that homework is being forced onto younger students more often than the older ones. I remember getting tons of homework in Elementary school, and not having the time to play outside, the stress, and my parents struggling to help me on problems I didn’t know.…

There are various effective arguments I would make to support students having homework by their teachers. The first argument I would make is that homework helps students to better retain the lessons they’ve learned during the school day. Students need a lot of exercises to do to retain what they learn everyday in school. Since class time isn’t enough to provide a lot of exercises on one subject, homework is the best way to exercise what’s been learned in class. If no homework is given to students on a subject that’s been discussed in class, it’s more likely for them to forget the subject the next day.…

Homework has been linked to achieving better results and better grades, so why are some schools banning it? Studies have shown the positive and negative effects of homework, and with a moderate amount, the positive effects outweigh the negative ones. Homework should not be banned, as it teaches discipline and time management skills, as well as supplements and accelerates learning. It is also needed in order to meet international education standards. Homework is important for numerous reasons, one of which being that it helps teach time management skills and discipline, especially in young children.…
