Believe it or not, but Darry can become a Soc in an instant. There is only one thing keeping him from taking this action, his family. The Curtis brothers are keeping Darry as a greaser. Ponyboy believes Darry can become a Soc and here’s why. First things first, Darry acts like a Soc, not a Soc like Bob, but a Soc like Cherry. The two types of Soc’s are the one’s that love to fight and the one’s that focus more on living a balanced life. Darry acts more like the second type of Soc. I know this because he is a very smart student, was captain of the school football team, and got a scholarship for being such a great football player. He has two jobs to keep the family living and works at home to make food and other things. A regular greaser would rely on the parents to get the money, but since Darry doesn’t have parents, he takes responsibility which no Greaser has.
