Death penalty is a hot topic in the American society. The debate of making capital punishment public makes it even more controversial. In spite of motions to change the situation, capital punishment should remain behind closed doors because of many issues related to civil rights, humanity and security. It is very important not to dehumanize and devalue prisoners. Making a public spectacle from execution of a person is taking away his privacy and dignity. Also for security reasons it is in government’s interest to preserve the solemnity of the execution and not to sensationalize it (Should Executions Be Made Public?, 2009). Death sentence is already the most radical possible punishment.
