It Runs In The Family: A Dark Side Reckoning

“Do you think I want to forget him? I want him back.” - Leia, Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Skywalker family is known for its tragic backstory. The matriarch, Shmi Skywalker became a victim of torture, dying in her son’s arms. Shmi’s death started Anakin down the path that lead him to become the evil tyrant the galaxy came to fear.

Anakin Skywalker, Shmi’s son, turned to the dark side of the Force, becoming Darth Vader. Luke, Anakin’s son would turn his father back to the light. However, it would cost the elder Skywalker his life.

The Truth Hidden Everywhere
For the majority of his early life, Ben was ignorant of the dark side heritage that ran through his veins. The only people that knew the full truth were his parents and uncle. Therefore, she initially feared Ben would fall down the same path. She didn’t want history to repeat itself with her son and neither did Han.

What if Ben had always had an inkling about who his grandfather truly was? What if he heard rumors that Leia and Luke were the ‘offspring of Anakin Skywalker’? The possibility of him not putting together the pieces sooner is high.

Keeping Ben In The Dark
Leia’s desire to hide the truth of her paternity from Ben was granted… for the first 23 years of his life. Ben had no clue about his grandfather’s dark past. Ordinarily, Leia desired one thing, with any hope of stopping her son falling down the wrong path. Therefore, she wanted to be the one to tell Ben about her biological father. Leia’s utmost desire came in the form of her twin brother. Secretly, she hoped Luke could explain to Ben that Vader ended up falling back to the light upon his
