The Harlem Renaissance was a time when African Americans felt they had to prove to the white Americans that they were just as good as them. After World War I, African Americans were forced to work as maids, waiters, and other low paying jobs. The African Americans decided it was time to fight back on the racism, by creating new music, art, and literature.
