There is no more important union outside of our relationship with Christ than marriage itself. I’m afraid if you brought Kelsey into the partnership or even just as an employee you would be seen as causing marital strife by Kelsey’s husband. God first, family second, and work is the last priority. Kelsey’s life would be much less fulfilling if she was working, but was divorced and only saw her children fifty percent of the time. Explain your concern to her and that you would not want to be the reason for marital difficulties to develop. There is also the potential if you brought Kelsey on as a partner, her husband could sue for a portion of the business in the event their marriage dissolved and become a partner without you endorsing it. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness (2 Corinthians 6:14)? While he may be a nice person, his basic morals and values are not going to align with yours and could potentially cause conflict in your business decisions. You may simply explain to him that you’re not interested currently in taking on additional partners. Now, he may just want the opportunity to be an employee.
