Through analysis of how women are depicted in the media, the findings of the five articles indicate that media has an influential role in its depiction of females and the affect this has on how society views women. This essay concentrates on examining the sexualization of women and how women are depicted through a variety of media channels such as magazine, television, video, advertisements and clothing. The primary goal of this paper is to demonstrate how media can affect society’s view on women. Studies on sexualization of women in media reveal a variety of ways that women are affected or influenced. This essay looks at recent sociological studies and draws comparisons on media sexualization of women through a range of media forms as well as the influence of sexualized clothing on young females. This paper is an examination of a variety of stereotypical images of women’s portrayal through media and how this leads to gender disparity in society and examines the impact to a woman’s self-esteem.
Findings demonstrate that the self-esteem of women is negatively affected because they are sexualized and subordinate.

The study revealed that in all forms of media women are underrepresented, the research notes that although the role of women in society has changed dramatically over the years there is still a disproportionate amount of male and female representation. More specifically, for example, the research indicates that the media climate is representative of the 1950’s versus 2010.
