Sexual Harassment in a workplace, professional environment or social situation involves the making of unwanted sexual advances or obscene gestures and or remarks. Sexual Harassment is not gender, race or ethnically specific. This means any individual can become a victim of sexual harassment whether you are male or female, black, Hispanic or white. Sexual harassment is so much of a problem that laws were developed to protect all members of society. In regard to law there are sexual harassment cases that are rejected or dismissed due to a lack of evidence. The Equal employment opportunity commission or EEOC also plays a major role in the evaluation of sexual harassment cases and the enforcement of sexual harassment laws. Some major celebrities are involved in sexual harassment. There are several celebrities who were accused of sexual harassment. In 1991, Def Jam Records mogul Russel Simmons was accused by Keri Calauseen Khalighi of coercing her to perform a sex act without her consent. Simmons later said the relationship was consensual. In entertainment, A producer by the name of Harvey Weinstein has been accused by dozens of women of sexual harassment, sexual assaults, and even rape. He was investigated and denies all allegations of non-consensual sex. The case that caught my attention had been said to be one of the largest lawsuit settlements awarded of its kind. According to Foxnews.com, a 16 years girl worked at the fast-food restaurant chain known as Chipotle where she was sexually assaulted and harassed by her manager. In court, she talks about how the sexual harassment began not too long after she started working. She then goes into detail how the manager harassed her. In the six weeks she started working at chipotle her manager was bumping into a breast purposely and making inappropriate comments about her breast. The 16 years old was then violated by her manager over 40 times and was forced to have sexual intercourse with her 26-year-old manager. The girl is now 19 years old and is classified as a sexual assault victim. After her sexual harassment she filed a law suit against Chipotle and won 7.65 million dollars. Her manager is no longer working at Chipotle and has fled from the U.S and is now in Mexico. It is a shame that people go into the workforce and become victim of sexual assault. The 16-year-old may have paved the way for people to speak up about what happened to them behind closed doors at work. Importantly, women in particular, should feel safe when they are at work. No one should feel or be violated by any individual in a work place. A work place is supposed to be a professional environment. This type of sexual
