Background of the Study
“Believing that you can accomplish what you want to accomplish is one of the most important ingredients in the recipe of success” (Maddux, 2002). Indeed, believing in one’s capability is very important in gaining self-efficacy. Unlike self-esteem, which reflects how a person feel about their worth or value, self-efficacy reflects how a person believes in his own capabilities in performing a specific tasks. According to Albert Bandura (as cited in Fitton, 2011), self-efficacy is “belief in one’s capabilities to organize and execute the courses to action required to manage prospective situations.” This means that you have to trust your own ability and capability for you to perform and succeed in a given task or situation. It can also mean knowing your strengths and weaknesses to be able to overcome and succeed to any particular circumstances. This helps a lot to keep a person motivated towards achieving their goal. The feeling of being effective and efficient of an individual indicates high self-efficacy. People with low self-efficacy, on the other hand, believe that their weaknesses may outweigh strengths. The concept of adaptability is a combination of flexibility and versatility. Those who possess both flexibility and versatility have a good adaptability skill. Other people have a stronger level of adaptability than others in a given situation. Enhancing an individual’s adaptability skills will help him or her to understand what way of interaction does different types people would like to be treated.
