The Seleucid Empire was a Hellenistic state ruled by the Seleucid dynasty, and existed from 312 BC to 63 BC. It was formed and founded by Seleucus I Nicator, following the division of Macedonian empire created by Alexander the Great. The result of the Macedonian Empire division gave Seleucus Babylonia, from where he expanded to much of Alexander's near Eastern terrorites.
