1) Why are chloroplasts important for plants?
Chloroplasts are important for plants because they contain Chlorophyll, used in photosynthesis. The Chlorophyll is what made it possible for plants to absorb and process the sun's energy and combine it with carbon dioxide and water to grow and make food. Photosynthesis also releases oxygen for humans to breath.
2) List two reasons and explain why the chloroplasts were helpful for the sea slug.
One reason for why the chloroplasts are helpful for the sea slugs is because they store up the chloroplasts in order to become solar-powered animal-plant combinations. Also, chloroplasts is important as a long-term energy source they …show more content…
The reason for this being that if the animal lives for a long period of time, then the cell will divide more times. If the animal size is large, then they’ll have more cells to divide. These cell divisions bring negative effects to the animal’s health because as cell divides, the chance it will gain a mutation that speeds its growth increases. Therefore, Cells that accumulate several of these mutations may become cancerous. 2) Why might the p53 gene been able to prevent cancer?
The p53 gene might be able to prevent cancer due to many reasons. This is true because it prompts the cells to repair the genes, stops the cells from dividing further, and even causes the cells to commit suicide. These processes decrease the rate of cell division which leads to the decrease of chance an animal might get cancer.
3) Why does a change in gene lead to a change in traits? Use the following words in your response: Ribosome, RNA, DNA, Gene, Amino Acid, Protein
A change in gene leads to a change in traits because these genes are copied and passed on to the next generation during reproduction. However, if mutations occur in the DNA, which makes up our gene, then new and different traits might be formed and transferred. Also, the code of DNA directs the synthesis of RNA, which directs the making of proteins, long molecules that are formed from amino acid subunits, on the …show more content…
The researchers gave half of the people pens and told them that certain color were regular pens and the rest has electric shocks, the other half got “mystery” pens that might or might not give them shocks. The results of two sets of experiments turned out that people clicked more pens with uncertain outcomes than certain outcomes due to curiosity. The author also mentioned that although sometimes curiosity might lead to negative or neutral outcomes, people still wants to satisfy themselves by trying to know the unknown, which is what led to many important scientific discoveries around
