Se Hinton was inspired to write this book by her observations of gangs at her Okhlahoma high school. Her book came out the first year she attended the University of Tulsa. Se Hinton does a great job of making the book action packed and interesting. The movie was very exciting and it kept you engaged the whole time. While the book and movie have many similarities and differences, the movie was more effective in telling the story.

To begin, the first comparable scene is when the soc’s and the greasers line up facing each other. A similarity between the book and the movie is the tense and exciting feeling.
