When I sat in my first psychology class, I felt extremely happy and knew this was meant to be. Working with students has always been my passion since high school. Volunteering at the guidance office inspired me to want to become a school counselor. Alongside volunteering, I also mentored underclassmen in various areas. My first job began as a Supplemental Instruction leader working for the Office of Specialized Services at NJCU in January 2016. This job helped me improve my communication and tutoring skills. Furthermore, it gave me an opportunity to learn skills that will be highly necessary in the world of school counseling. As a school counselor, I have many goals in mind. First, I would like to strengthen the public education system and provide effective learning strategies for students with disabilities. The amount of talent that disabled students have is extremely undeniable. I feel they can go very far if given the right guidance and tools to achieve success. We counselors have to work together to get rid of stigmas that students with disabilities have to face every day. I strongly believe this program at your prestigious institution will help me achieve my goals and guide me to becoming an effective, successful school
