Sharon Begley’s literary article Happiness: Enough Already claims that happiness is an emotion that can both bring us success in life and act as a barrier that can block us from achieving said success. Eric Wilson found this out to be true after reading numerous self-help books on how to become happier. University of Illinois psychologist Ed Diener also found this out after speaking with the Scottish parliament where was told that too much happiness is not good for the public. In fact, Diener’s journal Perspectives on Psychological Science states that “once a moderate level of happiness is achieved, further increases can sometimes be detrimental to income, career success, education and political participation” (Pg 455). Both Wilson and Diener…

Raising Awareness of Child Abuse On January 19, 2010 i40films uploaded a music video of Jason Michael Carroll’s song “Alyssa Lies” which Carroll wrote in October 2006. The music video depicts a very clear and evocative message to the target audience—children are being abused and some do not have the strength to come forward about their abuse and like Alyssa some are being beat to death. With a strong appeal to pathos, the video targets the audience’s emotions and values as it works to motivate viewers to help end child abuse and to encourage those who are victims of abuse to come forward.…

The poem I chose, “Happiness” by Jane Kenyon, describes what happiness truly is. It tells a story of who it comes to, and how happiness comes to everyone no matter what the situation is. The poem says in the beginning 2 paragraphs how happiness is always there and that it “saved its most extreme form for you alone”. I believe what the Kenyon is trying to say at that moment is that you have the power to be happy, even when you are alone. The poem also has very specific examples of who happiness comes to.…

From my perspective, the level of personal happiness fluctuates depending on the situation.…
