Santiago which is the capital of Chile lays 530 meters above sea level. Santiago was founded in 1541 and its population is around 6 million inhabitants. This portion is roughly a third of the country entire population. The city of Santiago is it Chile`s political, social, economic, and cultural center. As well it is one of South America most developed financial and economically established. It’s important to highlight that the city is considered as beautiful old style kind of city, but as well a modern day renaissance. The downtown of the city has a style of the 19th-century neoclassical architecture and the streets are kind, of the winding side with the neo-gothic design. The city itself has a variety of elevation because of the Andes Mountain. The eastern part of the city has a higher elevation than the western part of the city. The highest point of the city is located at Plaza Banqueado with an estimated altitude of 1,712 feet. Plaza Banqueado is one of the major landmarks in Chile. It has an oval-shaped plaza; which as a focal point of celebrations and riots.
