Samurais v.s. Knights

Knights and samurais were both superior warriors. They were skillful in their fighting and were powerful. They were both remarkable, but there are many reasons to why the samurais would win if they ever had to battle one another. Although they both have many similarities, the documents we’ve read in the DBQ and “The Warrior” video we watched in class both share evidence that can help back up the fact that the samurais have an advantage. One advantage they have was the way they wore their armory. In document D, it says, “A knight’s armor could weigh 40 to 60 pounds”. Their armor was made of heavy metals, which may weigh them down and will make it difficult for them to fight. Their fighting will not be steady and smooth.

and the knights armor was “Tiny metal rings linked together.” this didn't work so they used “plate armor.” Another example is, both armor has cons, knight armor “ could weigh 40 - 60 lbs” which was very heavy, samurai armor “became wet, the silk cords absorbed water and became very heavy.” This shows that both samurai and knights armor was very protective against attacks but have cons, too. As expressed, Samurai and knights are more similar than different.…

The opposite of my argument, argue that the differences are more powerful than the similarities. Both Samurai and knights wore armor when they went to battle and the two also had disadvantages with their armor. Also, the pair were loyal to their lords. First of all, both of these warriors wear armor when they go to war and have disadvantages. They might not wear similar kinds of armor but they still wear it in war.…

The second area that samurais would have an advantage in battle is armory. In document D written in the DBQ project it says “ A knight’s armor could weigh to 40-60 pounds”. This is a disadvantage for them because they can’t move as swiftly or quickly as the knights. Then again you might say that when a samurai’s armor gets wet it also weighs a lot. But fortunately rain was rare.…

Even the way they saw death. The first way that knights have an advantage was in weapons/armor and thought of death. In document D written by Terry Bennett (DBQ project) it explains “As more powerful weapons such as crossbows and longbows became common, chain mail was no longer sufficient protection… knights began to wear complete suits of plate armor, constructed by metal”. This statement explains how knights were fully protected with strong metal…

Samurais and Knights have different and similar tactics for training, armor, and codes, but they both still end up as strong, well-rounded fighters. In training, knights and samurai both start training at a young age, use swords, and stress loyalty and respect. But, some differences are samurais’ study Kendo, officially become a samurai at 14 years old, and have to study many religions and moral codes. The knights had to serve for a powerful family member or his father’s overlord, learn to ride a pony when they are young, when they turn 14 they are allowed to fight, but have to still train with their master, then at 21 they may or may not become an official knight. They fought in extremely heavy armour that weighed up to 50 pounds. Medieval knights fought with plenty technique. Most fights were extremely brutal and lasted only 20 to 30 seconds if equally matched. If one fighter was evidently more experienced than the other, bouts would last as short as 10 seconds. Long swords were used and often broke the armour and led to cutting the skin ending the battle.…

Knights had great physical ability. To wear fifty pounds of armour takes great strength. However, to fight in that fifty pounds of armour, takes even greater strength. Strength is shown in the “Green Knight,” by both Gawain and the Green Knight when they are taking each other's blows. To stand still while another person swings a weapon at you, is unremarkable.…

First of all, Knights and Samurais are similar because of what they wore/used in battle. They were almost the same thing, just different materials. This is evidenced by the fact that Knights wore a heavy iron armour while the Samurais wore a medium weighted leather armour. Meaning that they used the same type of armour, just in two different materials. This is also evidenced by the fact that Knights used Iron swords while the Samurais used Steel Swords.…

To elaborate, without all the heavy armor, like the knights, they can swiftly take out their weapon to block an attack, without any armor refraining them. To add on, another piece of evidence that supports the claim is also in document D, the text says The knights’ armors weighed about 40 to 60 pounds (heavier than the samurai's armor) and more protection, but it would be more…
