Historically, in the Bible, the book of 1 Samuel was estimated to have been written between 931 B.C and 722 B.C. (Malick) In the Standard New Revised Version of the Bible, in 1 Samuel chapter 13 verse 13-14 describes a conversation between Samuel and Saul. Samuel is explaining to Saul that because he did not keep the commandments of God. Because of that God was no longer going to set a strong and lasting foundation for him to rule over Israel. That God had found another man to rule over the kingdom of Israel. In Chapter 16, verses 4-13 the Lord had sent Samuel to Bethlehem to find the man that was chosen by God, for Samuel to anoint him as ruler over Israel. God had told him that he should not look for a big and strong man, for he does not choose based on mans appearance however his heart. When Samuel found David amongst his brothers, the Lord told him he was the one, and at that moment Samuel anointed David as ruler over Israel. This is an important part of history because after Sauls' death David became a great ruler over the kingdom of Israel. The Samuel Anoints David painting was found in Dura-Europos. As stated in the text that it "was probably found shortly after the Death of Alexander the Great by one of his successors." (Kleiner) In the year 256 Dura-Europos was evacuated and fell to the Sasanians. After the evacuation, there were discoveries of places of worship for the monotheist, religions being Judaism
